The Mission

Team IGNITE strives to make a contribution to the world by providing a platform where students can learn the creative engineering mindset. The creative engineering mindset teaches students to adopt varying perspectives and problem-solving techniques on real-life challenges. As Art & Tech student team, we provide a unique platform where knowledge of design and technology comes together. We believe that the creative engineering mindset is needed to form the bridge between technological innovation and society’s needs. Team IGNITE provides an educative playground where students can train their creative engineering mindset to spark innovation in the future.

The Challenge 

Team IGNITE is a student light design studio with students from the Eindhoven University of Technology, Fontys, Avans, Design Academy Eindhoven and Tilburg University. In our student light design studio, we combine our knowledge on light, design and tech to design and manufacture light artworks with innovative technologies. We use light in our designs, as light significantly affects people’s emotions and to create atmosphere. Light is a multi-faceted design tool which is very effective in experience design. With our artworks, we want to create a safe environment where people can easily connect with each other to create the feeling of social connectedness in society. All projects designed and manufactured by us are in accordance with Team IGNITE identity: • Interactivity: facilitating social interaction between people in a playful way, with the purpose of creating social connectivity. • Impact: start with thinking about the product’s lifecycle at the start of the design phase to minimalize it’s environmental impact. We aim to create light artworks with numerous applications. • Innovation: making use of creative ways to incorporate technology with the purpose of solving social challenges that are relevant to our current and future society.

The Solution

We design and manufacture interactive light art with varying purposes. In the past, we have designed artworks that • … made people dance with interactive light beams outside during the COVID-lockdown, with the purpose of bringing people more together. • … playfully guided visitors along a route during outdoor events at night with +700.000 visitors, with the purpose of improving crowd management. • … was designed as World War II memorial, where stories about war and freedom were stored using Li-Fi and Augmented Reality (AR). But the sky is the limit and many more applications for interactive light art are yet to be discovered!
