Over the past few years , as an active intro week parent for the association of Thor , I noticed that a lot of intro kids don't have bikes due to the high demand and low supply. Bike shops around September , knowing that there will be a wave of new students looking forward to buying a bike proceed to overprice the available bikes by a significant factor. Leading to students wasting money on not so great in condition bikes that will eventually need replacement or repair.
There has been a large shift to digital platforms, such as e-commerce and online databases, which results in user experience challenges. Providing a positive user experience is essential because it can significantly impact user adoption and engagement. There is a way to enable user experience improvement using AI technology, but this poses yet another challenge as many companies have either jumped in without a clear understanding of the technology, or they are not fully aware of the potential that AI can bring to their operations. With so many options and applications available, businesses are struggling to determine where to start and how to best apply AI to their business.
Globally, over 50 million metric tons of e-waste is generated annually, with only 20% being collected and recycled. The remaining 80% is undocumented and often ends up being traded, dumped, or recycled under poor conditions. Improper treatment of e-waste harms the environment and the health of humans and animals. E-waste contains 60 different chemical elements that spread via water, air, soil, dust, and food, with hazardous elements like lead, mercury, and cadmium posing a particular threat to children. Poor e-waste recycling also results in the depletion of rare and precious materials like gold and platinum, which could lead to shortages and further environmental damage.
Energy production by means of sustainable energy sources is inherently intermittent and fluctuating. This results in an offset in energy demand and energy production. This offset causes the electricity grid to be overloaded so much that these sustainable energy sources are temporarily disconnected, wasting the green energy. The congestion problem restricts energy sources from being connected to the grid. This problem is especially prevalent in the agricultural sectors. Farmers with large stables cannot put solar panels on their roofs, prohibiting them from generating additional income, and severely limiting the sustainable energy generation in the Netherlands, and internationally.
There are so many people who cannot even meet each other for date because of time limitation and social barriers. There is huge waste of time to spend know someone. We needed to create a safe, efficient, and personalized way for university students to connect with each other and form meaningful relationships.
With the climate and other crises staring at us in the face, it is paramount that we develop technologies that help drive humanity sustainably toward the future. Currently, the municipalities are not solving the waste issues using the data because there is no data about the waste that the city generates, to begin with. So, through my idea, I would like Eindhoven City to generate more insights into the waste that the city generates every day. In this way, we will gear toward making the waste management chain, a data-driven chain.
Designers, architects and urban planners greatly benefit from being able to visualise and work on their designs in a real-world context using augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR); Imagine being able to walk through a city street and seeing how the design will fit in that specific environment and how it looks with real people walking through it. This information could then be used by the designer to directly work on and improve the design, on location. However, existing software products focus on just visualising final designs, or designing in a virtual environment without the real-world context.
The world of today is evolving faster than ever and new technologies emerge rapidly. In this new world, it is a necessity to be innovative, so there is an urgent need for young artists, researchers, and entrepreneurs to present their ideas and connect with other innovators and their audiences. However, there is a shortage when it comes to materials and locations to explore their talents and passion.
Our society and agricultural sector are facing daunting challenges. In the Netherlands, but also in southern-European countries, droughts are increasingly common. Next to that, the agricultural sector is facing increasing scrutiny and is pushed to bring down its nitrogen emissions. These problems affect our food supply, access to clean drinking water and quality of life.
